The village of Grunth (Czech: Grunta) is a location in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.

Background

Grunth is a village in Kuttenberg region, of Libenitz domain.

Historical context

Grunth is a historic village established in the 13th century, notable for its early mining activities and association with the Sedletz Monastery.

In the 1270s, over 300 German miners settled on Kuklík Hill, where they constructed a parish church dedicated to the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. The village's mining community was significant enough that in 1278, King Ottokar II Přemysl recruited 500 miners from the area before the Battle of the Moravian Fields. This recruitment led to a notable loss of manpower, causing a temporary decline in mining operations.

During the reign of Wenceslas II, new silver veins were discovered in Grunth and nearby locations, including Kaňk, Spitsbergen (Špicberk), and Malín, which revitalized mining in the region. By 1305, official records mention the village mines, with Kuttenberg citizens granting land to excavate the gallery known as Gutglück Erbstolln.

The parish church in Grunth ceased to function independently after 1384, becoming a branch of Kuttenberg. The village came under the ownership of King Wenceslas IV in 1396, following the acquisition of the Libenitz estate.

Grunth was likely affected by the December 1402 battles of the Bohemian Civil War, specifically during the Siege of Kuttenberg. Although details are sparse, it is probable that the village was plundered during this conflict.
