Rabenstein
The village of Rabenstein (Czech: Rabštejn & Stara Lhota) is a location in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II.
Background
Rabenstein is a village in Kuttenberg region.
Historical context
Rabenstein is an historical village with a fort founded at the begining of 14th century.
The village and its fort were built in the 14th century, on a hill in the Vrchlice valley overlooking the course of the river, under the influence of the patrician family Písek. An imposing fortress protected the village and the water mills in the valley.
In 1393, a testamentary deed of Jílek Schneider, a landowner in the Rabenstein region, mentioned a project to install an altar. The pact stipulated a regular donation for the maintenance of a priest who would celebrate masses for himself and other members of the local nobility. In the same year, the administrators of his estates, such as Jindřich Krug and Hensel Lange, received an annual income from the Rabenstein lands in order to finance this religious foundation.
In 1400, the heirs of the patronage of the Jílek Foundation, Jack Písek and Jacob Krug, owners of Rabenstein, asked the authorities of the Prague Archdiocese to erect the altar in question as a permanent benefice. The masses that were to be celebrated there every week were intended for the souls of Jílek and his ancestors, as well as for the relatives of the two new patrons. Pavel of Třebenice was appointed priest in charge of the altar.
During the battles of December 1402 of the Bohemian Civil War, there is no detailed mention of Rabenstein, only looting and isolated battles in the area. In 1403, the situation of Rabenstein is unknown.
Today, the Vrchlice Valley has been under water since the 1960s, including Rabenstein, Stara Lhota and the water mills.
