Scavenger

Scavenger is a side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Henry demands Kunesh repay his debt, but without any money, the latter instead shares a rumor about some treasure hidden in Skalitz.

The player will need a spade for this quest.

Background

There's talk that there's still treasure to be found in Skalitz...

Simple walkthrough

  • Find the treasure under the dove-cote.

Detailed walkthrough

In Rattay, Kunesh has survived the attack on Skalitz and is reduced to begging. Henry can press him on the debt he owed Martin, which was never paid. Kunesh, penniless and bad tempered as ever, will need to be persuaded to admit that he owes Henry.

As he does not have any money himself, Kunesh offers to instead share information about possible treasure if his debt is forgiven. If the player agrees, he tells that he overheard someone talk about hiding their treasure under a dove-cote in Skalitz. Kunesh does not however know who this person was, and only barely made out the details while fleeing.

Uncovering Beran's role

If the player asks around the refugee camp, they can discover that the stash belongs to Beran and his wife. Persuade Beran to tell more, and he will confirm to Henry that it is in fact his treasure. He will also promise a reward if Henry can retrieve it for him. Otherwise, the player will need to proceed without Beran's input.

Retrieving the treasure

Digging up the cup

Before leaving, be sure to pick up a spade to dig up the loot. When ready, return to Skalitz, find the dovecote, and digging. There, the player will uncover Beran's 50 Prague Groschen and an expensive cup, which in turn is worth 200 Prague Groschen. Finding these will immediately complete the quest, although the player will still have several options to deal with the loot in Rattay.

Delivering the goods

Back in Rattay, Henry will have a few options if he chooses not to keep the loot for himself. If the player takes the cup straight to Beran, he will pay Henry 20 Prague Groschen if the groschen dug up was also returned. However, if the player lies to avoid returning the groschen, Beran will not be able to pay Henry at all.

Alternatively, the player can take the cup to Beran's wife. She will ask about the groschen Henry found - similarly to the previous scenario, the player may return the groschen to Beran's wife or lie to avoid doing so. If Beran is visited afterwards, he will be horrified that Henry gave his cup to his shrew of a wife. However, he will still reward the player with 20 Prague Groschen.

Finally, the player can return to Kunesh and tell him the treasure belonged to Beran. Kunesh is shocked, but insists he could not have known that. At this point, the player can forgive his debt, or tell him he still owes them. However, Kunesh will still be penniless, and cannot pay the player regardless.

Strategies

  • If the player overhears the domestic dispute between Beran and wife, they can ask him directly about the treasure.
    • This can be easy to miss since the conversation tends to happen immediately after the player enters Rattay for the first time.
  • While Beran has only moderate Charisma, it is possible to fail his persuasion check with very low Charisma. Even so, Henry's default clothing and the Flower Power perk should prove sufficient to convince him even without fancy clothes or armor.
  • Under normal situations, Skalitz is guaranteed to trigger an NPC skirmish if the player enters the vicinity. If the player is very low level or poorly equipped, it is strongly recommended to wait for any bandits or Cumans to finish and leave before heading for the treasure.
    • An alternative method is to sneak along the palisade while the NPCs are distracted fighting each other. This method will usually work, but can fail if a fleeing NPC runs towards the Skalitz gate, which will also be where Henry must enter the town.
    • If the player times this quest with A Friend In Need..., they may use the grace period from Matthew and Fritz's relocation to Ledetchko to loot the objective. During this time, all skirmishes and ambushes are disabled globally.

Notes

  • A dove-cote is a set of outdoor bird cages. These particular ones are each a set of 2 by 2 cages.
  • If the player owns the From the Ashes DLC, this quest must be completed before Kunesh can be recruited to work at the woodcutter's camp at Pribyslavitz.
    • Mistreating Kunesh will lower reputation, but he can still be recruited as long as it is high enough he is willing to talk to the player.
  • If the player fails to persuade Beran to share info about his stash, or simply does not talk to him about it, Henry will still recognize the cup as belonging to Beran. He will then be disappointed and ponder whether he should really keep the treasure for himself.
  • There is a second dove-cote in Skalitz with a dig zone beneath it that is filled with nothing but a sack of old clothes.
  • This is one of a few side quests, like Mightier than the Sword, which can be started and completed before meeting Sir Radzig in Rattay for the first time.
