Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a 2025 role-playing game developed by Warhorse Studios and co-published by Deep Silver. It is the sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance and was released on February 4, 2025 for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Gameplay
Like its predecessor, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is an open-world action role-playing game in which the protagonist is controlled from a first-person perspective. Once again, tasks and missions can be handled in different ways. Depending on this, the reaction of the NPCs and the world to the type of playing is different. In contrast to the first installment, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II features crossbows and early forms of firearms. The former can also be fired while riding.
Synopsis
The game takes place after the events of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, with the player will be playing as Henry as the saga of the Blacksmith's son continues. No longer a normal peasant, Henry is now a squire for Sir Hans Capon and the bastard son of Sir Radzig Kobyla. The game takes place in the "turmoil of a civil war" and Henry fights against Emperor Sigismund and his allies.
Development
Development on Kingdom Come: Deliverance II began in July 2019, following the release of its predecessor and its downloadable content.[1] While Warhorse Studios had 131 employees in 2019,[2] it had grown to around 250 people by spring 2024 at the latest.[3] According to its own information, Warhorse Studios wants to create Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, the game that Kingdom Come: Deliverance was supposed to be, but Warhorse Studios couldn't due to a lack of resources and experience.[1] The game uses a heavily customized version of the CryEngine,[3] with music composed by Czech composers Jan Valta[3] and Adam Sporka.[4] The protagonist, Henry, is again portrayed by the British actor Tom McKay.[5] In addition, the expertise of various historians, universities and museums was once again drawn on to represent, according to Warhorse Studios, a “realistic, immersive and believable medieval world”.[6] Unlike the development of the first part, the motion capture is supplemented by facial capture.[5] Stunt riders also took part in the development of the game.[5]
In October 2024, speculation arose regarding the potential inclusion of Denuvo, a controversial anti-piracy DRM system, in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. This speculation was fueled by a statement from PLAION customer support suggesting the game would utilize Denuvo.[7]. At the time, Warhorse Studios remained silent on the rumor. However, these rumors were dispelled on November 6, 2024, during a Twitch stream where Tobias Stolz-Zwilling confirmed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 would not feature any DRM system, including Denuvo.[8]
Versions
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II was released in three retail versions; as a Standard Edition, Gold Edition and Collector's Edition. In addition to the base game, the Gold Edition contains three DLCs/add-ons that will be released later, equipment for the protagonist and bonus content called "Shields of Seasons Passing", which will be released with the release of the base game. Both the Standard Edition and the Gold Edition are available digitally (via download) and as a physical edition. Buyers of the Standard Edition can purchase the three expansions and the bonus content "Shields of Seasons Passing" online as a digital bundle offer ("Expansion Pack"). The Collector's Edition includes all the content of the Gold Edition and is supplemented by several merchandise items. All pre-order versions will receive a bonus quest (called "The Lion Crest"), which in turn brings additional equipment for the protagonist.[9]
