Next to Godliness is a side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. After The Prey, Henry goes to visit a recovering Hans Capon in Rattay, who asks him to sneak to the Bathhouse in order to have a bit of fun.

This is a timed quest; once it starts, it must finish by morning. It is recommended that the player bring any dice in their possession.

Detailed walkthrough

After speaking to Lord Hans in Pirkstein, he will complain about how bored he is after being bedridden after The Prey. Hans invites Henry to join him at the Bathhouse after dark. After 21:00, Hans can be found drunk in the bath. He complains to Henry about the bathmaid Zdena's skill at dice - apparently, she won all his clothes at strip-dice, while he could not win a single ribbon. Henry agrees to play dice with her, with Hans chiming in with advice from the tub.

Playing dice with Zdena

The player must play a best of three of farkle with Zdena, with a winning score of 1400. After the games, Henry casually mentions that he could do with a bath himself. Hans orders him to strip off and jump in. The player may refuse, or join in the bath either clothed or stripped.

If Henry joins Hans in the bath, Hans will playfully tease Henry about the way he smells. Henry can then tell him about some of his latest exploits, before Klara, Hans' favorite bathmaid, enters with some wine. Hans however complains about its quality, and suggests that Henry go back to the Rathaus and fetch some of Hanush's Sylvan red wine from the cellar. However, he admits that it would be better if no one saw him doing it.

Fetching the Sylvan red

The wine cellar may be accessed by going down the side alley of the Rathaus near the Armoursmith of Rattay, around to the back of the building, and then up some stairs. The door will have a Very Hard lock, though it can be unlocked with Sir Hans Capon's keys. Inside the cellar, the wine barrel can be found to the right against the wall, and the pitcher will be close by as well.

Avoiding the cellar guard

It is likely the player will be stopped by the cellar guard, who must be convinced Henry is there to fetch Lord Capon's wine. Talking back or failing persuasion will land the player in jail for a day and fail the quest, while telling him that Henry is lost will only work once.

Once finished, return to Hans at the bathhouse, who is very amused that Henry actually went through with his trial. Now supplied with a fine wine, Hans, Henry and Klara start drinking and cavorting. Determined to woo Klara, a very drunk Hans promises her a bouquet of her favorite flowers - which means an equally drunk Henry must now go flower-picking.

Making a bouquet for Klara

Head over to the tournament area naer Rattay's Upper Castle. The right corner of the courtyard will have a door in the wall past the well. Head left after the door, and all the required flowers will be to the left end of the garden - dandelions, poppies, sage, and roses.

Facing off against Archibald.

Once he has the bouquet, Henry stumbles back to the Bathhouse, where a small crowd has gathered. Inside, Klara's sweetheart Archie has arrived, jealous and certain that she is whoring herself out to the patrons. Hans makes fun of the villager, who loses his temper and attempts to drown the young lord. Luckily, Henry walks in just in time to stop him, and after a few seconds of confusion, Archie punches him.

Brawl with Archibald

At this point, the player must fight Archibald unarmed - attacking him with a weapon will fail the quest. If the player loses, Archie will insult Henry before storming off. If the player wins however, Henry will reveal to a horrified Archie that he just attacked a lord, an offense which can get him hung. Archie apologizes profusely, but Hans simply shoos him away, too drunk to care. As Klara runs after Archie apologetically, Hans and Henry laugh about the night's adventures, and continue to drink. The next morning, Henry awakens outside the bathhouse.

"Is there any wine left?"

At this point, find Hans, who is most likely making his way back to Pirkstein from the bathhouse. He is not particularly concerned about what should be done about Archie, so Henry can either convince him to put him in the pillory to set an example, or tell Hans that forgiving a commoner for a drunken mistake would be the right thing to do. In any case, Henry will get up to a total of 475 Prague Groschen, and the Strip die if he previously beat Klara in farkle.

Strategies

  • Sir Hans Capon's keys can be taken from his trunk in the bathhouse. They can be used both to unlock the bathhouse and to convince the cellar guard that Hans sent Henry to fetch him wine.

Notes

  • The quest's title comes from the common idiom "cleanliness is next to godliness".
  • Known quests which Henry can report on to Hans include Tough Love, Ginger in a Pickle, and Lost in Translation.
    • An additional line of dialogue is unlocked if Henry has unlocked the Cuman killer perk.
  • Interestingly, Klara's bouquet is completed with roses even though she asked for knotweed.
  • Ironically, Henry beats and scolds Archie for doing the same thing he did to Hans when they first met, and this time Hans is content to let the issue go once the fight is over.
  • The player can attempt to give Klara her bouquet after this quest, but she will reject them.
  • It is not possible to collect the roses until after Hans starts this objective.
  • Although it is possible to steal Hans' clothes, he will regenerate a new set just like other NPCs who have their clothes stolen.
