Rusty Edge is a Warfare perk in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Description

The more damaged your sword, the greater chance of poisoning your opponent when you hit them, even without poison applied to your weapon. If you do have poison on a damaged weapon, the chances of administering it are increased by half.

Notes

  • As the description suggests, this perk appears to affect any potion effect applied to a weapon, even positive ones such as that of Marigold decoctions. The most useful however obviously would be highly harmful ones such as Bane or Dollmaker potions.
  • This perk can be quite underwhelming even considering its benefit of improving poison chance. Because a completely broken weapon can lose anywhere from one third to one half of its damage, an average weapon will struggle to get past the armor of even a lightly kitted opponent, even though this is necessary to apply potion effects.
    • While a high quality weapon will deal more passable damage even when fully broken, the benefits hardly outweigh the lost damage output since such weapons can often kill opponents in only a few successful strikes at normal durability.
    • Notably, even with Venomous Blade to keep applied effects on a weapon for longer, it is very possible any poison applied to your blade will be used up trying to get past an opponent's blocking before it can administer its effects. At that point, the player would either need to finish off the opponent with minimal bonuses or run away to briefly reapply any potions.
  • A possible special use for this perk would be for a pacifist playthrough (e.g. for the Merciful achievement.) A broken weapon will have a lower risk of accidentally killing an opponent, and with Dollmaker applied the player can more easily paralyze an opponent to either escape from or let allies deal with. Even if normal Poison effect is applied, it should deal damage slowly enough to give an opponent ample time to surrender.
