The Ring of Bacchus is an activity in the Kingdom Come: Deliverance Band of Bastards DLC.

Synopsis

There's an interesting game that Kuno's men play to pass the time. There's a ring that goes around between them, called the Ring of Bacchus. Whoever has it when they're at the tavern can drink and eat his fill at Kuno's expense. The ring is a highly coveted item in the camp, so I thought I'd join the game too.

Walkthrough

Round 1: Dangler

Jakey will call Henry over and tell him about the game's premise and the value that the ring has to Kuno's followers, explaining that whoever possesses the ring will gets extra drinks at the tavern payed for by Kuno. He says The Stone wants to talk to Henry about obtaining the ring from it's current holder on his behalf. Henry does not know who has the ring, but because The Stone cannot speak, he tells Henry who is holding it by making a kill gesture when asked - a reference to Dangler and his story about surviving being hanged. Though if the player is unsure or is unaware of Dangler's history, Henry can guess each of the other's names one by one until The Stone nods. The ring can either be pickpocketed from Dangler or you can win it from him in a duel.

Round 2: The Stone

Sometime after Henry has delivered the ring to The Stone, Stephan will ask for Henry's help in obtaining the ring for himself. Stephan will ask for Henry to bring him a lullaby potion so that Stephan can put The Stone to sleep and take the ring from him. Alternatively Henry can pickpocket the ring from The Stone himself and deliver it to Stephan.

Round 3: Stephan

Tree with ring

Next Jan Bearman will want Henry to obtain the ring for him, however Stephan being wise to everybody else's tricks has hidden the ring so it would not be so easily stolen. Henry must find the ring's hiding place and can ask the others for help, however because Stephan is so clever nobody else has any idea what he's done with it, except for Jakey and The Stone who saw Stephan hide the ring. The only clue Stephan gives is to "go to where the dead stand among the living" and look up.

Nest to shoot down

Because The Stone is unable to speak, when asked by Henry where the ring is he answers by making a bird call - trying to tell Henry that Stephan climbed a partly withered tree beside the road just outside of the camp and hid the ring in a bird's nest. Jakey will also tell Henry the location of the ring but will do so only if Henry passes a Charisma check because Stephan is the only one who's treating Jakey well and he doesn't want to reveal his friend's secret (alternatively, Henry can convince Jakey to "sell" his friend for a hefty sum of 20 Prague Groschen). Henry must shoot the nest down with a bow in order to retrieve the ring.

Round 4: Jan

Later on Petr Bearman will ask Henry to steal the ring for him from his brother Jan. The ring can either be pickpocketed from Jan or looted from him if you manage to successfully provoke him to a fistfight by insulting him and his brother (but it will decrease your reputation with him).

Round 5: Petr

Eventually Kuno will want to speak to Henry about the ring. Kuno is beginning to get frustrated with the way his men have been behaving, as they have started to grow bitter towards each other on account of constantly fighting over the ring. Kuno resigns that what used to be a fun game has been ruined by resentfulness, and wants to get hold of the ring and get rid of it so that he can retire the game, deciding that he'll just buy everyone an extra drink or two instead.

However Petr has grown weary of attempts to get the ring from him and is constantly on guard, so Kuno enlists Henry's help in obtaining the ring due to his success in the game so far. Henry can solve Petr's puzzle: Steeples guard the fields in a line, on one of them a cross you'll find. Off you go from east to west. Find the steeple, that's your test. Southwest of the camp is a line of hay drying poles going east-west; the partly filled one with the cross sticking out the top has the ring. The alternative is to convince Petr to wager it in a game of dice - to which Petr eagerly agrees.

After Henry returns the ring to Kuno, the game will finally end and Kuno will be relieved. This will unlock the Game Over achievement.

Extra Phase - Lost trinket

If Henry has delivered the ring to Stone, then re-acquires the ring at a later stage of the quest, and sleeps in Kuno's camp while the ring is still in Henry's possession, Henry may awaken to find that the ring has been stolen from him in his sleep and a Mysterious poem has been delivered to him by the person who stole it. The Poem reads:

Truly no one is outstanding without me, nor fortunate; I embrace all those whose hearts ask for me. He who goes without me goes about in the company of death; and he who bears me will remain lucky for ever. But I stand lower than earth and higher than heaven.

If Henry is unable to read, he will be unable to solve the riddle within the poem. As it turns out, The Stone is the one who has taken the ring from Henry, and his leaving the riddle behind reveals that he is able to read and write, but still cannot communicate with anyone else because none of his comrades can read. To once again get your hands on the ring, either read the poem, talk to Stone and solve his riddle (the answer is humility), or simply pickpocket the ring from him (but then you'll never get a chance to talk to him about the poem).

Having the ring stolen from Henry will unlock the Lost trinket achievement. Completing or failing the quest without having the ring stolen will make it impossible to acquire the achievement in this playline.

Rewards

Bugs

  • The nest in which Stephan hid the ring may vanish on hitting the ground, leaving the console as the only way to get the ring.

Notes

  • If the quest has not been started before Jakey leaves the band, it can skip to the second stage with Stephan explaining the quest and asking Henry to steal the ring from The Stone.
  • When interacted during the fourth round, Jan has an intimidation stat of 21. While it is possible to successfully intimidate him, you will still lose reputation regardless of the outcome.
  • It is advisable not to complete this quest until after completing What Price Honour?, because if the player wants all of Kuno's men to survive the final battle against Zoul, than having this quest still open in the journal will alert the player when Kuno or any of his men have died with a quest failed message, allowing the player to reload and restart the final battle immediately without having to win the fight and check for bodies afterwards.
    • However, The Ring of Bacchus should be completed not long after winning the battle with Zoul, as Kuno's band leaves a few days after.
