Walkthrough

After the cutscene in Family Values, talk to Sir Divish in the encampment south of Talmberg Castle. There he will tell Henry that it is thanks to him that they still have a trebuchet and so he would like Henry to have the first shot. Henry does not know how, but Divish tells him that Feyfar and Konrad will prepare it and the soldiers will load it, so all Henry has to do is pull the lever.

Return to the encampment north of Talmberg where the trebuchet is located. Captain Robard will tell the men to load it—slowly pushing a boulder into the sling, and then all you have to do is pull the level on the right-hand side.

Return to Captain Robard. He says you're to watch Istvan Toth shit himself for a few days while they bombard the castle.

You can wait a few days until the bombardment is finished. Alternatively, the quest log in the ongoing main quest Siege has updated at this point to say "Talk to Captain Robard." Talking to Robard will give you new objectives in the quest Siege and finally complete it.

After 2–3 days, the quest log will update and you can speak with Captain Robard. Unfortunately, Istvan has not surrendered, so the troops will be attacking the castle directly. You can begin right away or take a moment to prepare yourself.

When you're ready, Robard tells you that the attack will be split into 3 stages: taking the outer walls, taking the inner bailey, and finally, taking the core of the castle and the tower. The battle plan is as follows:

  • Conquer the gate. The men will first damage the gate with the trebuchet, trying to hit it directly. Then the men will have to charge a downpour of enemy arrows all the way to the portcullis. Since the portcullis is wooden, the men will break it down. However, Robard remarks that dealing with the defence in the bailey will be challenging.
  • Attack on the western wall. Men will have to move ladders to the wall while under fire. Once the ladders reach the wall, footsoldiers will scale the battlements and should quickly gain the upper hand.
  • Take the battlements. Should be doable by scaling the western wall or with help from the men at the gate.
  • Take the inner bailey. Due to the way the castle is designed, enemy archers will bombard the men with arrows from the inner battlements until they can reach the inner bailey. The men will either have to fight through it or somehow get around.
  • Secure the living quarters. Once inside, Istvan will know that defeat is inevitable, but conquering each and every room will be its own challenge.

Robard gives Henry the options between taking the Skalitz men to attack either the western wall or the northern gate. Henry will choose western wall automatically.

After the cutscene, follow your men to the western wall and then scale the ladders once they've been placed. Defeat the enemies on the inner battlements at the top of the ladder, then follow your men as they move eastward around the battlements toward more enemies, and eventually into the inner bailey. Due to the close quarters nature of the battlements, it might be worth heavily relying on the center part of the star reticle (standard poke attack with no directional input) in your attacks so as to not hit your allies.

After clearing the enemies in the inner bailey, a cutscene will play where Hanush leads hostage negotiations once more. Sir Hanush swears to exchange Sir Radzig and Lady Stephanie for Erik and safe passage all the way to the boundary of the fiefdom. Toth agrees to give Lady Stephanie back immediately, but will not release Radzig until he reaches Skalitz at the border of the fiefdom to ensure his safety.

Henry and Hans Capon object to Hanush's negotiations, but they go forth. Toth keeps his initial promise, releasing Lady Stephanie unharmed to Sir Divish in the inner bailey. Before setting off in the direction of Skalitz, he flaunts Radzig's sword at Henry.

After the cutscene, follow Hans on your horse to meet Sir Radzig in Skalitz. After riding for a mile or two, a cutscene will begin. From this point forward will be a cutscene sequence until the quest Epilogue begins. You can read a brief summary of the cutscenes below:

During the cutscene, Henry and Hans find Radzig on top of a hill in Skalitz, safe and sound. Hans and his men ride off to try to kill Toth now that he's free game, leaving Henry and Radzig to talk privately.

Radzig finally confronts Henry about being his real father. He tells Henry that he had a love affair with his mother when they were young [before she met Martin, Henry's adoptive father], but since she was a commoner, he knew he couldn't marry her. Martin met Henry's mother either while she was pregnant or after giving birth, and while he knew Henry was Radzig's son, he adopted him as his own. Henry remarks that he knew little about his adoptive father, so Radzig tells Henry some things about him.

Henry remorses that he lost the only thing he had left of his adoptive father, the sword he had made for Radzig. Radzig corrects Henry, telling him that it's his sword, and expresses hope that they will someday recover the sword and kill Istvan Toth, but warns Henry that he shouldn't let his desire for vengeance stop him from enjoying the beautiful life he has.

On their way home, Henry and Radzig see Margrave Jobst's company riding by. After game credits will play, followed by another cutscene of Henry dreaming about his parents. A guard wakes him up inside his quarters at Pirkstein, citing that Radzig request his presence at the upper castle where the noblemen are in counsel with Margrave Jobst.

At the end of these cutscenes the quest Epilogue automatically begins.

Trivia

  • Talking to Captain Robard during the quest, you can learn that the trebuchet has only recently been introduced to the region.
