Dice, or Farkle, is a mini-game and tutorial codex entry in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It is played using six-sided dice, and is playable in every respectable tavern.

Rules

Farkle is a 2-player game, the first one to reach the specified amount of points wins (usually 4000).

Both players take turns playing, and as Henry, you always play first.

One's turn ends either by:

  1. Passing the turn by submitting the points.
  2. Getting a 'bust' by rolling and not having any scoring dice.

Note: The following information is from the in-game tutorial.

If you want to try your hand at gambling, it's possible to play the dice game of Farkle in every respectable tavern.

The goal of this two-player game is to be the first to reach a certain number of points.

Six dice are thrown and the players alternate turns. Points are gained for every 1 or 5 thrown, and for three or more of a kind of any other number. Scoring is as follows:

  • a single 1 is worth 100 points;
  • a single 5 is worth 50 points;
  • three of a kind is worth 100 points multiplied by the given number, e.g. three 4s are worth 400 points;
  • three 1s are worth 1,000 points;
  • four or more of a kind is worth double the points of three of a kind, so four 4s are worth 800 points, five 4s are worth 1,600 points etc.
  • full straight 1-6 is worth 1500 points.
  • partial straight 1-5 is worth 500 points.
  • partial straight 2-6 is worth 750 points.

A player's turn always begins by throwing all six dice. The player then uses Key E.png [A button on Xbox / X button on PlayStation] to select and set aside scoring dice, and at least one die must always be set aside. Then the player can throw the remaining dice again using Key F.png [X button on Xbox / Square button on PlayStation] and the situation repeats. Scoring combinations are counted only for the current throw, not the entire turn.

The key element of the game is that if a throw does not produce a single scoring die, then the player's turn is over and all points scored up to that throw are forfeit. It is then the opposing player's turn to throw. For that reason, it's best to end your turn using Key Q.png [Y button on Xbox / Triangle button on PlayStation] before the risk that not a single die will score gets too high. Sometimes it's better not to set aside all the scoring dice you you've thrown, so you stand a better chance of scoring higher on the next throw.

Since each player uses his own dice, there's also an opportunity to cheat. But finding loaded dice isn't so easy.

The Devil's Head is a die with a side functioning as a wild Joker. Along with a pair of any other number, it forms three of a kind, e.g. two 1s and a Devil's Head is worth 1000 points. The Devil's Head on its own has no value though. If all the dice fall as Devil's Heads, there is no score.

1 Alfonse's devil die and Devil's head have a devil head instead of a 1, when rolled, the head becomes any number that gives an advantage to the player, but it cannot score on its own.

Notable players

Each tavern has a specific unnamed NPC "Townsman" whom you can play against, will always wear some sort of expensive attire, and whom will allow you to make bets between 50 and 100 groschen. These NPCs always have at least some sort of special die that you can loot or pickpocket from them.

Notes

  • The best dice for playing Farkle are undoubtedly a full set of 6 Lucky Playing Dice. Out of all the dice they are most likely to fall on either a 1 or a 5 (combined chance of 66.6%), and even when they don't - two out of three times they'll fall on a 6, so there's a reasonable chance of getting a three of a kind. In fact, with this combination of dice, it is not unusual to win in the first turn of playing, and it is quite hard to lose.
    • Missing Lucky Playing Dice can be substituted with Alfonce's dice, since they have similar properties (though Alfonce's dice aren't as good).
    • A full set of 6 Odd dice is also a good choice, and a bit easier to obtain, since they are more common.
  • Having the Perfect Throw perk from the Agility skill tree, will make you roll better, which increases your chances of winning.
  • A temporary perk granted by drinking Pribyslavitz Boar beerFTA is increased luck at dice.
  • Winning a total of 1,000 Prague Groschen while playing Farkle will grant you the achievement/trophy Gambler.
  • Winning the dice tournament in the The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon will grant you the achievement/trophy I can quit anytime.
  • While dice games were popular during the time period depicted, the game of Farkle is modern, having been invented in the mid-20th century.
