Homecoming is the third main quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. After escaping from Talmberg, Henry heads back home to Skalitz in order to bury his parents.

Background

Although my liege lord Sir Radzig Kobyla forbade me to leave Talmberg and the lord of Talmberg, Sir Divish, complied with his wishes and tried to keep me in the castle, in the end I succeed in leaving. I had to get back to Skalitz to bury my parents. I couldn't just leave their bodies to the dogs.

Quick walkthrough

  • Find your parents.
    • Get hold of a spade (0/1)
  • Dig a grave under the linden tree and bury your parents

Detailed walkthrough

After passing the Quarry of Talmberg, Henry remembers the route home and makes his way to Rovna. There, he passes the burnt out buildings and follows a trail of blood to the church yard, where he sees dozens of bodies, piled up and burnt, then left to rot.

Skalitz

Continue through Rovna towards Skalitz until Henry gets to the bridge, where the player character will be confronted by a bandit who is looting some of the bodies. After dealing with the bandit and arriving at Skalitz, the player character will need to travel to the east gate in order to enter, as the other entrances are blocked with debris. Within the town, Henry will encounter the bodies of his dead townsmen. The Bailiff, the Deutsch, and Bianca. The player can choose to keep Bianca's ring.

As he makes his way closer to where his parents fell, Henry laments that so many died fighting to defend the town, while he ran like a coward, and lived. Finally, he comes across their bodies, and tearfully begs their forgiveness for running away. He vows to find Markvart von Auliz, and make him pay for what he's done.

Burying Henry's parents

First, you need to find a shovel to bury them. Head back toward the town and follow the sound of the barking dog. There, you'll find the butcher's dog, Mutt, snarling at Zbyshek, who has survived the massacre and is now looting the corpses. Zbyshek has a shovel, but he refuses to give it to you.

Confront Zbyshek about his lack of respect for the dead and the living. He may either attack you or flee. Drawing your sword will typically cause him to flee. Afterward, pick up the shovel he left behind and return to your old home to dig a grave under the linden tree. Once Henry finishes digging, he heads back to retrieve his parents' bodies and lay them to rest. However, he becomes overwhelmed with grief and breaks down. At that moment, a voice calls out behind him, sarcastically asking if he needs help.

Runt

Henry turns to see Zbyshek accompanied by a group of bandits, led by Runt, who demands that Henry hand over everything he has, especially his fine sword. Henry refuses, drawing the sword to defend himself and demanding they leave him alone. Encouraged by his cronies, Runt attacks.

Runt easily knocks Henry out with a single blow. As he struggles to regain his footing, Runt picks up the sword, admiring it and remarking that the Chief will be very pleased with such a fine gift. Just as Runt prepares to plunge the sword into Henry's chest, he is distracted by a defiant Theresa, accompanied by Sir Robard and a company of guards from Talmberg. Zbyshek and Runt manage to escape, while the other bandits are swiftly dealt with. Theresa and Sir Robard ensure that Henry’s parents are properly buried before loading the unconscious Henry into Theresa's cart, where she takes him to Rattay to recover.

Notes

  • It is theoretically possible to "win" the fight against Runt if the player is skilled and prepared. However, the cut scene of him overwhelming Henry and ending the fight in a single blow will still play out normally.
  • The second bandit that Henry encounters along the road is functionally tagged as a civilian and killing him will be tracked as a murder within the game statistics.
